How to actually get here
One landmark turn off US-83, then a last mile your GPS doesn’t believe in. Read this before you drive — or save it, since cell signal gets thin out here.
Heads-up: GPS will not get you all the way here. It typically says “you’ve arrived” while you’re still on the county road, at a fork with a couple of mailboxes — short of the lodge. Follow the written directions past that point.
Step one: the turn off US-83
Every route here funnels through one landmark: the turn off US-83 (Blue Star Memorial Highway) onto E Opal Springs Road, right at the railroad crossing near Wellfleet. Let your own maps get you to Wellfleet — that part they’re good at — then switch to these directions.
- Coming from the north (e.g. North Platte, heading south on US-83): pass through Wellfleet, and shortly after you’ll see the railroad crossing ahead. Just before the crossing, turn left (southeast) onto E Opal Springs Road.
- Coming from the south (heading north on US-83): just after the railroad crossing, turn right onto E Opal Springs Road — you’ll reach the turn before you get to Wellfleet.
Step two: the last mile (same for everyone)
- Follow E Opal Springs Road. Your GPS will likely announce “you’ve arrived” when you reach the intersection with S Mitchell Road — you’ll see a couple of mailboxes there. This is not the destination.
- Go straight, staying on E Opal Springs Road, up the hill.
- Follow the road as it bends around to the right (south) — the main lodge is on the right. You made it.
Once you’re here: park at the main lodge and check in — we’ll point you (or walk you) to your cabin or site from there.
